A NFF member from the Nandana Gunathileka faction told Lanka News Web that NFF Leader Wimal Weerawansa reprimanded the US ambassador to Sri Lanka at the press conference held at the party headquarters on the 15th due to a tip off given by the Defence Secretary that General Sarath Fonseka was to meet with the US ambassador.

The source also said the press conference was called for the purpose following instructions from Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Rajapaksa, the ambassador had informed General Fonseka of the inability to meet that day since she was delayed on the road on her way back from attending an event attended by the President at the BMICH.

A senior officer from the Army Headquarters told Lanka News Web that the meeting was rescheduled for the 17th morning and the discussion was to include details about General Fonseka’s scheduled visit to the US and the agreements that are to reached between Sri Lanka and the US.

Weerawansa after hearing General Fonseka’s scheduled visit to the US and his meeting with the US ambassador charged that the new US ambassador was trying to create disharmony in the country even through military personnel.

Weerawansa also charged that the current US ambassador was the head of the US missions in Iraq and Afghanistan when the countries were under siege from the US and that she played a role in creating a weak government in Bangaldesh and when Indira Gandhi was assassinated.
