Sources from Temple Trees say the President is due to announce the date of the next presidential election on November 20th following astrological advice. In this backdrop, the Presidential election is to be held around January 15, 2010.

Participants at the SLFP convention yesterday called on the President to first hold a Presidential election. The Defence Secretary has however warned the President against holding the Presidential election two years prior to the scheduled date.

The President had ignored Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s warning saying it would reflect baldy on his image if he postponed the Presidential election at a time when there was speculation about General Sarath Fonseka entering the fray.

The President had told several confidants yesterday that regardless of survey reports put together by the intelligence units, he had the strength to put a good fight against General Fonseka.
