REFUGEE

தனது அறையில் தங்கியிருந்த பிரித்தானிய மாணவியைக் கொலை செய்தார் என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டில் அமெரிக்க மாணவிக்கு இத்தாலி நீதிமன்றம் 26 வருட சிறைத் தண்டனை விதித்து தீர்ப்பளித்துள்ளது.

2007 ஆம் ஆண்டு 21 வயதான மெரடித் கர்ச்சர் என்ற 21 மாணவி பாலியல் ரீதியாக துன்புறுத்தப்பட்டு கொலை செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தார். கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட மாணவியுடன் ஒரே அறையில் தங்கியிருந்த அமெரிக்க மாணவி எமென்டா நொக்ஸ் (வயது 22) சந்தேகத்தின் பேரில் கைது செய்யப்பட்டார்.

தொடர்ச்சியாக வழக்கு விசாரணை நடைபெற்று வந்தது. இறுதியாக இன்று அதிகாலையுடன் முடிவடைந்த 13 மணிநேர வழக்கு விசாரணையை அடுத்து மேற்கண்ட தீர்ப்பு விதிக்கப்பட்டது. தீர்ப்பினை நீதிபதி வாசிக்கும்போது தண்டனைக்குரிய மாணவி கதறி அழுததாகத் தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது.

அதேவேளை, இந்தத் தீர்ப்புக்கு எதிராக தான் போராடப்போவதாக அந்த மாணவியின் தந்தை ஊடகங்களுக்கு அறிவித்துள்ளார். On December 4, 2009, [[Amanda Knox], an American college student from Seattle was found guilty by an Italian court of murdering her roommate, British student Meredith Kercher. Six of the jurors wore red, green and blue sashes—indicating Italian national pride.http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20324839,00.html3 The trial took place in Perugia, Italy, where both Knox and Kercher were students at the University of Foreigners.
The murder of Kercher took place in 2007. Prosecutors argued that Sollecito, along with Rudy Guede, a so-called "drifter" from the Ivory Coast in Africa, held down Kercher, while Knox stabbed and killed her. Kercher's body was found covered in a blanket inside the apartment she and Knox Knox spoke in Italian, as she read her final statement, at her trial for murdering her roommate, British national Meredith Kercher.
