First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa had called General Sarath Fonseka’s wife, Anoma, yesterday (16) and blamed the Defence Secretary for the rift between the President and General Fonseka, sources from Temple Trees said.

The First Lady had expressed her regret at all the difficulties faced by the General due to the Defence Secretary’s actions and had said she did not blame General Fonseka for the decisions he has now been compelled to take.

Soon after hearing of the rift between the President and the General, the First Lady had mane attempts through Anoma to resolve the issue. Sources said the First Lady had even made several calls to Anoma when she visited the US recently.
