Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka not to hand in his letter of resignation until the Presidential election is announced as there was a possibility of the President not calling a Presidential election if the General handed in his resignation before November 19, sources from the Opposition Leader’s Office said.

Sources said the Opposition Leader’s decision was been endorsed by SLFP (M) Wing Leader Mangala Samaraweera.

However, the JVP has informed the General it was best for the General to hand in his


resignation letter to the President before the SLFP convention on November 15.

Sources also said the President is hoping to announce the date of the next Presidential election on November 19 after passing the necessary resolution at the SLFP convention on the 15th
