President’s election campaign to be launched by sending a voice message to telephones

The President’s propaganda committee has taken steps to send a voice message of the President to 13 million telephones as part of the election campaign. The project is to be handled by Presidential Advisor Sunimal Fernando and Director General, Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Priyantha Kariyapperuma. Sunimal Fernando is the uncle of Dialog Sri Lanka’s CEO, Dr. Hans Wijesuriya.

According to the plan, every citizen is to receive a voice message from the President on their fixed and mobile lines. A senior government minister told Lanka News Web that a decision has been made to get maximum use of the technological advancements in the election campaign.

The minister said that Basil Rajapaksa has estimated the President’s campaign to cost between Rs. 8-9 million.
