Minister Chamal Rajapaksa involved in an iron racket with several monks
Port and Aviation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa has reportedly used duty free permits given to religious institutions to import iron worth Rs. 20 million this year.
It is learnt that the load of iron imported to Sri Lanka this year by the Minister is the largest amount of iron to be released through Customs for imports using duty free permits belonging to religious institutions.
Most of the permits used to import this load of iron have been issued by the Customs to chief priests from temples in Colombo and Matara.
Minister Chamal Rajapaksa it is learnt have donated between Rs. 2 -10 lakhs to the respective temples claiming it to be for the development of the temples when taking the permits from the priests.
