Sri Lanka's deputy Minister resigns from office to contest against President


Dec 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Deputy Education Minister M.M. Mustafa he would be resigning from his post to contest against the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the upcoming election.

He further said that he has already informed the government about his move of vacating his office.

The Minister explaining his decision said that the government didn't allow him to execute his plans on reformation of higher education system towards a job-oriented one which would produce professional work force to the country's development drive.

He further added that if General Fonseka gives him a written assurance that the 13th and the 17th amendments will be implemented once he is elected he is willing to reconsider his decision to contest the poll and extend support to General Sarath Fonseka.
